Learning how to fly powered paraglider under instructor's guidance is essential for safe and
continuous enjoyment of the sport. To earn an ultra light pilot license
required to fly PPG in Canada a student pilot must complete minimum of 30 take
offs and landings totalling 5 or more hours in your log book.
Level
1 course covers all you need to
know to fly PPG solo under instructor supervision. You scan expect to
complete 5 - 10 solo flights.* This
part of training must be completed using our equipment or equipment we
sell and are familiar with as to minimize risk. NOTE: If you purchase
equipment from us 15 % discount for training will apply to your basic
course.
After
completion of this basic course pilot will work on acquiring the remaining
amount of flights to total 30 flight + total flight time of 5 hrs as
required by transport Canada. Student may use other brands of
equipment if deemed safe.
Here is an outline of a typical Level 1 course:
Course outline - day one:

We will start at 8 am at Peaks Indoor Rock Climbing Club where we

We will then do about 1 - 3 hours of practice at
the training field that will cover:
Ground inflations of glider - front and reverse. Introductory
flight (I will demonstrate a short flight - weather permissible)
Ground inflations of glider - building a wall. Ground forward
inflations of paraglider. Ground reverse inflations of paraglider Foot
launched solo flight/s - weather and skill permissible Trike solo
flight/s - weather and skill permissible Note: For the ground
inflations of glider and foot launch we require 0 - 20 km/h wind and
no rain, snow or wet ground. For trike practice taxi runs or flights
wind should not exceed 10 km/h.
Day 2 and 3, 4, 5, 6 if applicable:
Afternoon - typically from 1 - 3 pm on.
Paramotor and paraglider ground handling - front and reverse.
Foot launched solo flight/s - weather and skill permissible
Trike
solo flight/s - weather and skill permissible
Note: For the ground inflations of glider and foot launch we
require 0 - 20 km/h wind and no rain, snow or wet ground. For trike
practice taxiing and flights wind must not exceed 10 km/h. Additional
ground school information
Here is an example of a typical advanced course outline:
Afternoon - typically from 3 or 4 pm on.
Foot launched solo flight/s - weather and skill permissible.
Trike
solo flight/s - weather and skill permissible
There are some
weather
conditions that will prevent us from triking, paramotor training or powered
paraglider flying:
there will be no ground paraglider handling if surface wind is more then 25
km/h
trike
launch - there will be no PPG powered paraglider flying if surface wind is
more then 10 km/h or if I deem the conditions too thermal or
turbulent.
foot
launch - there will be no PPG powered paraglider flying if surface wind is
more then 20 km/h or if I deem the conditions too thermal or
turbulent
there will be no training at all in rain or if our field is
water logged and/or very muddy
there will be no PPG training if there is snow on the ground
Note that:
we have access to enormous field that we
PPG train from.
we have indoor facility to teach paramotor ground school and to show and
test paramotoring equipment that we sell.
I am instructor certified by Transport Canada
with 4 years of experience
teaching paragliding, 8 years of experience teaching powered
paragliding. I have been paragliding since 1988 and power
paragliding since 2000. I also have 23
years of experience teaching rock climbing.
our paramotor PPG school is approved by Ministry of Transportation Canada
we only teach students on approved PPG equipment. please call
and discuss the equipment you plan to purchase gear before the
course.
we follow written curriculum to ensure quality and consistency of
powered paraglider PPG paramotor training
our PPG paramotor classes are small to ensure personal attention to all
students. I teach all the powered paragliding courses my self with
help of Mark another experienced PPG instructor.
Very nice flight - this is what it is like....see here

COST BASIC
COURSE:
I require an $ 500.00 deposit
(this is when you book
on line) to register in the
powered paraglider course and additional $ 1000.00 is due at the first day of the
course - I will keep this money as credit and will deduct
appropriate amount daily as we train according to the course
cost structure below.
Gift
certificates for powered paraglider course are available - this would be a cool gift for someone
adventures.
COST ADVANCED COURSE:
$ 500.00 deposit then pay as you go.
Gift
certificates for powered paraglider course are available - this would be a cool gift for someone
adventures.
IMPORTANT: Note
that paying fees doesn't guarantee that you will complete your PPG paramotor powered paraglider
training and earn an Ultralight aero plane license (restricted to
powered parachutes). I
had a few students with paragliding background and students who purchased full set of equipment and
practiced on their own who were fully prepared and ready to fly
therefore the cost of the
full course was only around $ 1500. An average PPG student who is using school equipment will
spend about $ 2300. I also have some want to be PPG pilots in
process who spent close to $ 3000 and are still not
finished. See course cost
structure below.
If you purchase your equipment
from us we
offer 15% discount on your training. Make sure that your equipment is registered with
Transport Canada, has ID placard attached and registration marks
painted/displayed.

You are required to: Complete
powered paraglider preparatory
ground school,
learn how to fly powered paraglider paramotor safely, complete ground
school and log 5 hours of flight time
including minimum of 30 take off's and landings most under my supervision.

and write you a letter
of competency. You will need these documents when applying for Ultra-light pilot
license restricted to powered parachutes and paragliders.
Step
2 - Pass Transport Canada written test: You will study from the
"Ultralight Information Manuals" and pass written exam
with Transport Canada. This can be done any time after you
have completed 2.5 hours of solo PPG flight time in your log
book.
Step 3 - Apply for an Ultralight pilot license: To get licensed as PPG pilot you will submit an application

Permit - total of 6 hrs
$ 90.00 CAD per hour per each
hour of paraglider ground training/handling - includes use of
paraglider and training harness. Approximately 4 - 6 hours

flight. Approximately 6 - 8 hours
of training is required to be sufficiently prepared for solo foot
launch flight. For

$ 130.00 CAD per hour per each
hour of trike riding/taxiing. This per hour fee includes: use of
paramotor mounted on trike and helmet with radios. Approximately
1/3 hour required.
$ 160.00 per hour of powered practice (power take
offs, short flights, landings, cross country flight/s) This per
hour fee includes: use of paraglider, helmet if applicablewith radios,
backpack style paramotor or paramotor mounted on trike. Approximately

returned at the end of the course or upon request.
NOTE:
* Times required for ground glider handling and powered practice are estimated as some people are quick learners and others
are not. The
possibility of training depends on weather and can spread over
many weeks or
months if you can only train on weekends and your schedule is not flexible. The amount of flights one will manage is
also estimated. There is a slight possibility
that paying $ 1500 for basic course will not provide you with any flights if
your skills are below average.
Flying foot launched PPG is quite demanding and requires good level
of fitness. To complete 30 flight and total 5 hrs of flight time in
your log book is a serious undertaking.
