We Fly In Stable Air
Powered paragliders fly in stable and calm air – typically last 3 hours before sunset. We do not need thermals to stay aloft – we have our paramotors to keep us flying therefore will not be exposed to turbulance like non motorized paragliders are. Most of the accidents you find on youtube are with non motorized paragliders.
We Have Error Resistant Gliders
Powered paragliding pilots fly paraglider wings designed for beginners. These are very collapse and/or pilot error resistant gliders and if they do collapse, they immediately re-inflate without any input from pilot. Most non motorized powered paragliding pilots will upgrade to performance paragliders which are more dangerous.
Hire Most Experienced Instructor
You will seek the most experienced instructor – this is most likely the best investment in your safety. Proper guidance through you PPG training will establish safe flying habits which will carry on once you have your license and fly on your own. I have been flying PPG for 18 yrs and teaching for 16. There is no one more experienced in english speaking part of Canada.
Do not consider training in USA where this sport is not regulated and any new pilot can legally teach another person. In Canada PPG instructor has to go through very serious evaluation and training process to ensure safety of students and quality of instruction.
Use Only High Quality Gear
You will purchase top notch, highest quality gear – when it comes to your own safety you do not want to save couple hundred bucks. Some motors are more realiable then others the same goes for paragliders. You will get what you paid for and this very very strongly applies to powered paragliding and effect levels of you personal safety.
Purchase Rescue Parachutes and Protective Gear
Once trained, you will fly with secondary rescue parachute so you can deploy it in life threatening situation. This is a circular, turbulence proof canopy, that opens instantly once deployed and will safely carry you to the ground.
You will always use extra protective gear such as high quality helmet, safety glasses and proper boots designed for paragliding.
Always Inform Someone Of Your Flight Plans
You will always inform someone about your flight plans. You would inform that person where will you fly from, estimated time of take off, direction and general area of the flight and estimated time of landing. Do not forget to cancel you informal flight plan – inform this parson that you are now safely back on the ground.
Always Carry A Cell Phone
You will always carry your cell phone so you could use it in emergency or if you get lost in flight. Do not laugh, it has happen to me twice!.
Book A Tandem Flight
and last but not least …
Book your self and your sgnificant other on tandem flight – he/she will experience the beauty and calmness of flying PPG first hand and he/she will be then more relaxed about your PPG endeavours.
